How it all started...
A local pastor and his church had a great interest in seeing a western heritage church in Live Oak County.
Twelve people who shared that dream met on June 17, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in George West.
They asked God what to do next. They began to meet on Sunday evenings at the Nueces Grill in George West. After a few weeks Fred and Evelyn Johnson offered their ranch home as a place to meet for worship. Pat Traxler was called to be the pastor of this new church, Brush Country Cowboy Church.
The numbers were growing and a place closer to town was needed. On February 13, 2005 the first BCCC Church Service was held at the Live Oak County Beefmaster Barn. Many Playdays, Team Ropings, Roping Schools and other activities were held there.
After almost three years at the Beefmaster Barn, it was time to move to another location. On January 6,
2006 BCCC held the first service at Gable and Shaunna Martinez's place. Their place provided a large barn, an arena, and beautiful large oak trees, to hold worship services and continue having the events that the Church had become noted for. Then another of many amazing "God" things, in a long line of
"God" things, happened. Land was given as a permanent home for Brush Country Cowboy Church.
Twenty five acres of brush land were given by Raye Smith and her family in memory of her husband, Francis "Buster" Smith. The land is located on the corner of I-37 South Frontage Road and County Road 381, approximately 1 mile north of FM 799 exit.
Many gave of their resources of time, skill, financial support, presence and prayers as God blessed and led them to get the land ready to build on. The building of people and structures began and hasn't stopped!
The first Church Service was held at the I-37 location on March 22, 2009. Many more ministry opportunities have become available because of the permanent location. And "HIS" tory goes on as we keep seeking God's will and trusting in His provision.
